The Primary 1 English syllabus in Singapore introduces students to fundamental building blocks: spelling, grammar, and punctuation rules. Many parents express concerns about their child's ability to read sight words and simple sentences, form complete sentences, and structure their thoughts effectively before entering P1. ReadWrite is the natural next step after our enhanced Phonics Advanced programme. It takes the strong phonics foundation your child has already built and elevates it to the next level. Building upon their Phonics Advanced knowledge, students will engage in extensive reading practice. This dedicated focus helps them improve their reading speed, intonation, expression, and pronunciation, transforming them into confident and fluent readers. We move beyond decoding to truly understanding the rhythm and flow of language.
It's not enough to just read the words; understanding their meaning is paramount. The ReadWrite programme places a strong emphasis on reading comprehension, teaching children strategies to grasp the main ideas, recall details, and make inferences from texts. This critical skill is vital for success across all subjects in primary school.
From Sentences to Stories: This programme is designed to transit children into writing short simple sentences, the emerging writing skills they will need for future composition writing.

A rich vocabulary is the cornerstone of effective communication. ReadWrite systematically introduces and reinforces new vocabulary, alongside a comprehensive list of sight words. Mastering sight words allows children to read more smoothly and focus their cognitive energy on comprehension rather than decoding every single word.
